Tufted herb up to c. 1 m. tall, lacking stolons. Lvs on pith-filled stout petioles up to 2 dm. × 1 cm., grooved, nearly glab. except at junction with lamina; sheath expanded above into foliaceous ligule. Lamina coriac., bright green above, paler below; ± reniform, with deep and broad sinus; almost glab. above, nearly so below or scabridulous; 20–30–(60) (from sinus) × 30–40–(60) cm.; margins irregularly, rather shallowly lobed, lobes again lobulate; lobules rounded-triangular, strongly mucronate to awned. Peduncles stout, up to ± 15–50 cm. long. Primary rays c. 5, very stout, up to c. 10 cm. long; bracts foliaceous, on petioles c. 5 cm. long, lamina us. deeply 3-lobed. Secondary rays up to c. 15 mm. long. Umbels congested; fls small, pale yellow.
