A suberect, decumbent or sometimes appressed, short-branched, small shrub with radiating branches, to 10 cm tall and 20 cm wide. Young stems moderately to densely hairy; internodes 0.5–2.5 mm long. Older stems stout (to 10 mm), dark brown to black. Node buttresses lunate to elongate, sometimes prominent on leafless stems. Leaves ascending, loosely imbricate, becoming patent.
