Nomenclature
Scientific Name:
Dracophyllum pearsonii Kirk (1885)
Synonymy:
Type: New Zealand. Stewart Island, W.L. Pearson s.n. (holo: WELT 33309!).
Etymology:
Named after Joseph Pearson (1821–1901), stockman and explorer of the Waimakariri Valley.
 Description

Erect, much-branched; bark dark grey; branchlets ± 5 cm. long, ascending, densely clad in imbricate lvs. Sheath 4–(6) × 2–(4) mm., ciliolate, passing by subtruncate shoulder into stout glab. linear-subulate lamina ± 2–2.5 cm. × 0·5–1·5 mm.; margins minutely denticulate, apex pungent. Infl. of 3–6 fld racemes 12–20 mm. long, near tips of branchlets. Lower bracts lflike, up to ± 10 mm. long. Sepals ovate, acuminate, ciliolate, persistent, < corolla-tube. Corolla-tube c. 3 mm. long, ovate-triangular, acute. Capsule obovoid.
