Recognition
  • an erect shrub up to about 3 m high, with stems that are hairy at first.
  • its leaves have a purple stalk, are finely hairy, green, and have toothed margins.
  • its inflorescence is a loose, erect panicle (up to 30 cm long) and the flowers are purplish or violet, and 1-1.5 cm long.
  • its nutlets are small (about 2 mm long) and brown.
