 Recognition
  • a perennial aquatic grass that is loosely tufted or forming loose masses in shallow water.
  • its leaves are up to 23 cm long, flat or folded, and scabrid on leaf ribs.
  • its inflorescence is erect or spreading, sometimes prostrate, and the flowering head large (up to 55 cm long) and with few spikelets.
  • its seeds are 2-3 mm long.
