 Description

Robust, monoecious, rhizomatous, perennial herbs. Stem short, thick, with leaf-scars. Leaves usually sagittate-cordate, net-veined, long-petioled. Inflorescence solitary or several together at or near apex of plant, pedunculate. Spathe tubular below, expanded and usually boat-shaped above. Spadix usually < spathe; female flowers at base separated from male flowers by a short zone of sterile flowers; terminal sterile appendage conical.
